The invention concerns a packing (2) for a mass and heat transfer column (1) in which a gaseous and a liquid phase are brought into contact, comprising a plurality of identical packing elements (4) essentially in the form of a right hollow cylinder. The wall (6) of the cylinder is concave outwards and convex inwards, forming two outer edges (11), and the ratio of outer diameter (D) to height (H) is large. To reduce pressure loss and to increase capacity and efficiency, the packing (2) consists of a plurality of superimposed layers (3) of horizontal packing elements (4) of open cross-section which are randomly distributed in each layer (3) and have an outer diameter (D) to height (H) ratio of approximately 6:1 to approximately 10:1. |
