PURPOSE:To simply obtain AlN whisker free from residual impurities and suitable for various reinforcing materials, etc., in an excellent yield at a low cost by mixing an chloride of Al with carbon black and heating the resultant mixture in a nonoxidative atmosphere containing nitrogen gas. CONSTITUTION:(A) A chloride of aluminum (e.g., basic aluminum chloride) is mixed with (B) carbon black. (B) Component is suitably carbon black with >=50m<2>/g BET specific surface and >=70ml/100g DBP oil adsorption and the mixture ratio is preferably >=0.5 pts.wt. (B) component based on 1 pts.wt. (A) component calculated as alumina. The resultant mixture is then subjected to heat treatment in a nonoxidative atmosphere containing nitrogen gas to produce AlN whisker. The residual carbon black is subsequently removed by treatment such as combustion, thus obtaining AlN whisker. |
