PURPOSE:To branch a reflected light of a beam splitter further, to increase an apparent Kerr rotary angle and to improve the detection sensitivity and the S/N by forming a radiated face of the beam splitter so that the normal of the exiting face of a reflected light of the beam splitter in a detection optical system and a detected optical system optical axis forms a Brewster angle. CONSTITUTION:A branch part 11a arranged to a detection optical system 9 in a beam splitter 11 is made of an optical isotropic material and a reflected beam from a recording medium 5 is reflected in the detection optical system 9 and branched in the reflecting face 11b of the beam splitter 11. Then an angle between the normal of the exiting face 11c of the reflected light of the branched part 11a arranged to the detection optical system 9 and the reflected light is a Brewster angle iB. Then a transmitted light refracted in the exiting face 11c is led to a detection element 8 through an analyzer 7 arranged on the optical path and an optical signal is converted into an electric signal in the detection element 8 and the result is extracted as an information signal. Thus, the detection sensitivity and the S/N of the information signal, especially the magneto-optical recording and reproducing device are improved. |
