A tracer-assembly comprises tracer-operated valve members 23 radially spaced about, and movable axially parallel to, the tracer 13. Movement of the axis of the hand-guided tracer 13 in a vertical plane parallel to the movement of the controlled slide in one direction, tilts a disc 22 about a spherical-seat 55 to operate a valve 18. A similar valve is operated similarly when the tracer axis moves in a vertical plane perpendicular to the former plane. Axial movement of the tracer, on balls 72, corresponding to vertical movement of the slide, operates a valve 20. The bushing 24 of each valve controlled by the plate 22 is urged downwardly by a spring against an adjustable stop. The plate 22 is connected to each valve 23 by a spring-pressed plunger 48 and a ball 50. The degree of lateral deflection permitted is controlled by rotation of a collar 61, to determine the clearance between a conical surface 62 and a sleeve 63. The sleeve 63 can be moved upwardly by a knob carrying an eccentric-pin engaging a groove 64 in the sleeve, thus allowing rapid movement of the slides, while moving the tracer 13 upwardly by means of a rod 94 to raise it from the pattern. The degree of vertical movement permitted to the tracer is determined by a collar 74. The valve 79 is urged downwardly by a spring 80 against a seat 78 on the tracer, the seats 78, 55, having a centre-of-curvature 97 lying in the plane of the top of the plate 22. To produce an automatic feed of the work, a collar 106 at the top of the unit is rotated to position a spring-pressed rod 111, which is released to bear against the tracer and bias it in the feed-direction desired. The feed continues at the speed determined by the setting of the collar 61. To enable the operator to guide the tracer in a recessed pattern, a control knob is secured on the upper end of the tracer by a threaded aperture 135.</p> |
