Device for removing frame shims 17, 18 in a paper machine or corresponding frame whilst replacing wire or felt, by means of a tie rod 10, which is coupled to horizontal breams 3-5 of the frame for the purpose. Between the bottom horizontal beam 3 and the tie rod 10 in the machine frame, a hydraulic nut 15 has been fitted for the purpose, to which hydraulic fluid is fed for removal of the shims 17, 18 until the force acting on the tie rod 10 causes the horizontal beams 4 and 5 to rise, so that the shims 17, 18 of the vertical beams 6 and 8 can be removed. After replacing the wire 19, the shims 17, 18 are reinstalled and the hydraulic fluid circuit that acts upon the hydraulic nut 15 is reduced until the frame has been restored to the position of use and the force acting on the tie rod 10 has essentially disappeared. <IMAGE>
