PURPOSE:To wholly abolish lamination of electrode plates and separators for cell by cell and also the strap welding of the electrode plates between by forming a positive and a negative electrode plate with a plurality of cells consolidated, and using a mat-shaped separator equipped with a band-shaped recess which has undergone resin hardening so as not to allow movement of sulfuric acid ions. CONSTITUTION:One side of a lead alloy grating is filled with positive electrode paste 8 while the other side with negative electrode paste 9, and a non-filled portion 10 is provided. A plurality of electrode plates are coupled in a string by an H-profiled rod 14 made in oxidation resistance. A mat-shaped body, which is made of extra-thin glass fibers and has a large surface area, high porosity, elasticity, and flexibility, undergoes a pressure hardening process using an acid resistant, chemical resistant resin so as to provide a band-shaped recess 19. Electrolyte is held by this mat-shaped separator, and a bunch of electrode plates are piled with the recess 19 facing the above-mentioned rod 14 and inserted in an electrode jar 22 with a certain pressure applied, followed by provision of strap 20 and terminal 21. This constitution decreases the man- hours in assembly and suppresses internal drop of the battery. |
