Electric stunning of animals before slaughter - by using electrode adjacent eyes and hearth respectively

Succession of large or small animals to be slaughtered are driven along a tapered V-channel towards an electrical stunning station. Here one electrode is applied to the chest/heart area of the animal, and the other, whose height is adjustable by pressure cylinders, is brought down to the level of the eyes/brain area. When in position, the electrodes are actuated by an operator. The upper electrode may be incorporated in a mask fitted over the animals head. Animal position may be photo-electrically monitored. USE/ADVANTAGE - Esp. for pigs. Lower stunning currents are used, with benefit to carcase quality.
