A roof gutter is provided on its upper side with a device for deflecting contamination, such as foliage and the like. The roof gutter is completely covered over its entire length and width, as a result of which the hydraulic operating region of the roof gutter is kept fully clear of any foliage and larger contaminating materials. In this arrangement, rainwater can flow out unhindered through openings provided in the manner of a screen. The trapped foliage dries when good weather sets in again and is carried away by the wind. A foliage deflector of this type is suitable for covering all conventional roof gutters and roof-guttering systems. It prevents the blockage of roof-gutter outlets. <IMAGE>
