Gripping apparatus

In a gripping apparatus having two gripping fingers which clamp an article between themselves, the said article is pressed against a stop in the course of the gripping movement. According to the invention, the stop is immovably arranged on the gripping apparatus, while the gripping fingers pull the article in the direction of the stop towards the end of the gripping movement. Such a gripping movement progression can be achieved with simple means if the gripping fingers are actuated by means of a transmission lever mounted in a rocker-like manner.
