Special waste of any type can be stored for the long term safely separated from its environment in a special disposal unit in the form of a large concrete container which is effective for a virtually unlimited period on account of the sealing compounds used. Subsequent repair of defects, which hitherto could only be achieved in a technically unsatisfactory manner, is dispensed with. It is possible to check the effectiveness of the seal at any time by observing the asphalt level or it is even possible to subsequently recover the stored waste. To this end, hollow bodies placed one inside the other and separated from one another by a gap filled with sealing compound are let into the subsoil. The hollow bodies are made one after the other. Asphalt is then poured as sealing compound into the annular gap between both hollow bodies so that the stored special waste is safely separated from the environment. The liquid sealing system of asphalt provides a completely tight and permanent seal. In addition, the self-healing effect of the asphalt, which penetrates into any cracks in the subsoil or concrete and thereby always guarantees the sealing, should be emphasized. <IMAGE>
