Luminaire having a plurality of light sources of low-voltage halogen lamps and an AC power controller

A luminaire which is fitted with between 2 and 20 low-voltage lamps connected in series and in which furthermore a specific AC power controller or an AC power controller with dimmer is connected in series. The maximum output voltage of this AC power controller has to be matched to the respective number of lamps or to the sum of the voltage of these lamps. This AC power controller can have two functions and limit the voltage and additionally control the brightness in the dimmer function. In this way, each luminaire which has only two lamps or any number of between 2 and 20 lamps can be controlled in a transformer-free manner. In a luminaire having a relatively large number of lamps, to detect a failed lamp, which is optically not possible in the case of halogen lamps, provision can be optionally made for an optical signal transmitter (glow-discharge lamp) or a light-emitting diode or even an electronic environment of the failed lamp by means of an NTC conductor. All three systems are in each case connected in parallel to each lamp.
