Then, the delay angle quantity for a standard advance angle is obtained from the estimated intake pressure PMJ and the engine revolution speed N obtained from the output of a crank angle detector 28 is obtained, and the ignition timing during transition is determined. The fundamental advance timing during transition is determined. The fundamental advance angle is obtained by searching a prescribed table according to the intake pressure PM detected by a pressure sensor 19 and the engine revolution speed N. Further, in this case, the ignition advance angle up to the time when the generation of knocking is detected from the output of a knocking sensor 38 is increased through the lapse of time, and the ignition advance angle is reduced when knocking is detected.
