A process for impregnating or coating objects in conjunction with the intermittent passage of the objects through an impregnating or coating zone, a drying and/or hardening furnace and a cooling zone, immersion or flooding of the objects in the impregnating or coating zone into the or by the liquid impregnating or coating means and thermal afterburning of organic components in the exhaust air of the drying and hardening furnace is characterised in that the objects are led immediately after one another through an inlet lock, the impregnating or coating zone, at least one dripping and preheating zone, the drying and/or hardening furnace, at least one cooling zone and an outlet lock, at least a part of the inlet air is introduced into one of the cooling zones and at least a part of the air introduced into the cooling zone is caused to go via the outlet lock, an air current is led from the cooling zone via the drying and/or hardening furnace to the thermal afterburning and a part of the waste heat of the thermal afterburning is transferred to the contents of the drying and/or hardening furnace, the inlet and outlet locks being zones that are arranged between two doors that can be closed in an essentially gas-tight fashion.
