The resilient element (1) for use in quantity as a packing material and made from a material selected from a wide range, but particularly from reconstituted paper, is hollow, with parts contained within a reference circle (2). It is U- or C-shaped, in a number of alternative designs. It may have two resilient arms (3) connected by a bridging part (5) forming part of the circle, and with the free ends (4) bent inwards, with a gap (A) between them. These free ends are bulbous, and connected by short bends (4a) to the arms, which are concave. The bulbous ends also form arcs of the circle. One alternative design has arms forming parts of the circle, connected by a concave bridging part.
