The invention relates to a tool (1) for connecting cable cores (35) to insulation-piercing contacts (7). In order to produce a tool (1) for connecting cable cores (35) in which the cable end is not stripped until the cable core (35) is pressed into the contact slot (38), on the ram (2) there is arranged a latching lock (3) which locks the longitudinal movement of the ram (2) with respect to the housing (12).
