Circular-cylindrical bodies (2) are formed from rectangular sheet-metal blanks by rounding and longitudinal seam welding. In a first spreading operation, these bodies are expanded into an oval cone over their entire length and then relieved of stress again. In a second spreading operation, the bodies (2) are then expanded in such a way that they receive their polygonal, in particular rectangle-like cross-sectional shape over their entire length.
