Monoclonal antibodies against, and cell surface antigen of, lung carcinoma.

Monoclonal antibodies and fragments thereof, hybrid cell lines producing these antibodies and methods of using them are described. They are characterized in that they - belong to Cluster w4 as defined at the International Workshop on SCC, London 1987, - show high capacity for in vivo localisation, - have low retention in non-target organs, - exhibit persistence at the target tumor and - bind to a glycoprotein antigen having the following characteristics: - molecular weight of approximately 45000 before and about 15000 to about 17000 after deglycosylation; - remains reactive with antibody SWA11 after deglycosylation; - remains present in cells after treatment with tunicamycin. They have an interesting pharmacological activity and may thus find application in the diagnosis and/or treatment of lung carcinoma.
