A filter press has cloths 16 arranged to be wound in the manner of roller blinds from their working position between the press plates on to spring-loaded rollers 20 when the press is open. As the cloths are so wound they pass between pairs of closely spaced blades 23, which remove the filter cake 30 from the cloths without damage thereto.
