A process of coating a wire 3 with thermoplastic material 4 consists in feeding the wire 3 through a die assembly 2 comprising a housing 5 with an orifice 8, a wire guide 6 within the housing 5 and having a front wall 12 parallel to and spaced from the inner wall 13 of the housing 5 and having a bore 7 the same diameter as the wire 3 and a hollow section of greater diameter from which lead one or more conduits 9 to allow plastic material to flow from the section to the space between the walls 12, 13 and causing plastic material to flow through that space to the wire 3 so that the material has no velocity component in the direction of travel of the wire. Details of the clearance between the walls 12, 13, screw sizes and diameters, filters temperatures and pressures are given. Specification 861,299 is referred to.
