Distributed priority logic network in a data processing system has a plurality of units coupled to transfer information over a common bus, each of the units capable of transmitting and/or receiving of information, the priority logic network, the priority is normally determined in an hierarchical arrangment by physical position of the units on the common bus. The periority logic network includes periority logic in each of the units. The priority logic includes a bistable user flip-flop circuit for asynchronously indicating that a transmitter unit is ready to transfer information over the bus to a receiving unit of the plurality of units.
