PURPOSE:To enable the detections of the fact that there is no liquid leakages caused in an alkaline battery and the fact that the battery has not been used by coating the entire surface of the terminal of either a positive electrode or a negative electrode with a seal which is made of paper or the like containing a matter discolored by an alkali. CONSTITUTION:A seal 6 made by immersing paper or non-woven cloth into solution prepared by dissolving 1 part of cresol red into the mixture liquid consisting of 50 parts ethyl alcohol and 50 parts water, is installed on the surface of the negative terminal 3 of an elementary battery 3 into which a positive electrode, a negative electrode and an alkaline electrolyte are packed. After that, the periphery 8 of the seal 6 is fixed under the lower curled peripheral end 9 of an exterior cylinder 7. Here, in addition, the seal 6 is provided with sewing-machine stitches 10. As a result, since the seal 6 turns its color into red when the alkaline electrolyte leaks out of a battery 1, the leakage of the electrolyte can be easily detected. Besides, by exposing the surface of the negative terminal by breaking the sewing-machine stitches 10 in using the battery 1, it also can be detected that the battery has no been used. |
