PURPOSE:To obtain an isoparaffin in high selectivity by isomerizing an n- paraffin having a specific C number in the presence of tantalum treated with sulfate ion. CONSTITUTION:An isoparaffin is produced by isomerizing a 4-8C n-paraffin at 0-500 deg.C under a pressure of several tens mmHg to 100atm in the presence of tantalum treated with sulfate ion. The tantalum treated with sulfate ion can be produced by immersing tantalum in a 0.1-2N aqueous solution of sulfuric acid for several hours, filtering and drying the oxide and heating at 100-500 deg.C. The sulfuric acid may be replaced with a compound generating sulfate ion by thermal decomposition, hydrolysis, etc., (e.g., ammonium sulfate or sulfuryl chloride). Since the above catalyst has high activity, the reaction proceeds at a low temperature to suppress the breakage of C-C bond, improve the selectivity and prevent the corrosion of the apparatus. |
