A typical example involves a 2 tonne forklift truck fitted with an iron/air battery comprising 6 parallel-coupled stacks, each giving 100 A and 72 V. A stack consists of 90 cells with an active area of 22 x 42 cm. A+ max. effect, the current density is 108 mA/cm2 at 0.8 V. The iron anode has a capacity density of 0.7 Ah/cm3. Each iron anode which is thus loaded single-sidedly has a capacity of 0.195 Ah/cm2 corresp. to a total capacity of 180 Ah. The battery provides a max. effect of 78 kWh, and at nominal system voltage of 90 V, the energy store is 90 kWh. To this can be added a capacity reserve of 540 Ah. This kind of battery will provide during charging a nominal amt. of 15 m3 of oxygen, which can stored for use in factory operations such as welding, cutting, etc. |
