A feed wheel for use in forest machines provided with a crane-mounted or chassis-mounted tree-working unit having at least the lopping function and preferably also one or more of the functions felling, marking, cross-cutting and possibly barking for feeding tree trunks through the unit, which feed wheel comprises a steel rim and a solid rubber tread layer fixed, for example vulcanized, thereto. In order to improve the pulling power in this type of feed wheel, in the peripheral part of the tread layer 3 there are disposed in recessed arrangement a number of chains 9 preferably evenly spaced along the periphery of the wheel, which chains extend over the tread 3 and comprise mutually movable, oblong-shaped links 11, preferably having parallel long sides 12, each of these chains 9 being fastened in pre-stressed manner on both sides of the tread layer 3 to the steel rim 1, and which chains, having each alternate link 11 placed transversely in relation to adjoining links 11, extend transversely across the tread layer in grooves 8 intended for this purpose and having a depth at least corresponding to half the link width. <IMAGE> |
