An arrangement for storage under water of environmentally harmful, in particular radioactive or chemical waste, comprises at least one secondary capsule 1 in the form of a cylindrical concrete body which is designed with a central storage cavity 3 which is designed as an axial shaft open at one end and into which a primary capsule 2 containing the waste can be inserted and the open end of which is then sealed. The concrete body 1 is also designed with a number of ballast cavities 4 which are distributed around the circumference of the body and can be filled with water to a variable degree and which have such a combined total volume that the body can be made to adopt a floating state by emptying the ballast cavities. A number of such secondary capsules 1 containing primary capsules 2 with waste can be stored at the bottom of the sea in an annular concrete construction 6 which is designed with a large number of vertical cylindrical compartments 9 which are positioned around the circumference of the annular concrete construction and can each contain a secondary capsule 1. This annular concrete construction 6 resting on the seabed is also designed with a large number of ballast cavities which can be filled with water to a varying degree and have such a combined total volume that the annular concrete construction can be made to adopt a floating position by emptying the ballast cavities. <IMAGE> |
