PURPOSE:To cut a bare fiber with an exact cutting angle without contact by exposing the fiber in the cutting point and bringing the left part and right part on the front surface of a pressing member into contact simultaneously with the optical fiber on both sides of the cutting point. CONSTITUTION:The exposed bare fiber 12 is scored by a cutting blade 30 at the center of the fiber. Since the position of the cutting blade 30 is fixed in this case, the optical fiber 10 is so set to clamps 20, 22 that the center of the exposed bare fiber 12 and the position of the cutting blade 30 are aligned. The left part 64 and right part 66 of the pressing member 60 come into contact simultaneously with the optical fiber 10 from above a coating part 14 and push down the optical fiber. The stress rupture of the bare fiber 12 is, therefore, resulted by exerting a uniform force to the positions equal from the cutting points p on both sides of the cutting point p. The end faces of the optical fiber which are specular and are nearly perpendicular to the optical fiber axis are easily obtd. in this way. |
