PURPOSE:To improve thermal-, mechanical strengths and chemical stability of a heat resistant protective layer which are one of the factors to determine the repetitive life of recording and erasing an to improve recording and erasing sensitivity by providing thin diamond-like films between an optically active recording layer and a base material supporting the layer. CONSTITUTION:Vapor deposition is executed by using a plasma injection CVD method until a prescribed film thickness is attained to form the thin diamond- like film 2 on the base material 1 for a disk consisting of glass, polycarbonate, etc. The recording film 3 which is the optically active layer is thereafter formed thereon and the thin diamond-like film 4 is again formed thereon. The thin diamond-like films are not always required to be formed on both surfaces of the recording film 3 and the formation of the thin diamond-like film only on the incident side of laser light which is particularly vigorous in thermal deterioration is possible as well. The thin diamond-like films are constituted of an amorphous material when optically viewed. These films have no anisotropy, have a high refractive index and high mechanical strength, is chemically stable and has the characteristics as an excellent protective layer. |
