PURPOSE: To additionally improve the appearance and free flow property of animal feed and simultaneously to improve the retained tacky adhesiveness and gloss of the feed and the uniformity and coloration characteristic of a coating film by coating the animal feed with a coating comps contg. sugar cane molasses having specific characteristics. CONSTITUTION: This coating compsn. for the animal feed contains the sugar cane molasses having Brix within a range of about 79.5 to 84, a solid content within a range of about 65 to 75%, pH within a range of about 3.0 to 5.5 and a total phosphorus content within a range of about 0.03 to 3.0%. About 1 to 10% fat may be further incorporated into this coating compsn. At this time, an emulsifier is required to be added thereto in order to ensure warrant the uniformity of its color. The control of the pH of the sugar cane molasses described above is preferably executed by using the pH control agent selected from a group consisting of phosphoric acid, phosphate and polyphosphate and controlling the pH to a range of about 3.0 to 5.5. The bivalent cation selected from a group consisting of magnesium and calcium is further added to the coating compsn., by which the water retaining property and tacky adhesive retaining property of the coated animal feed are improved. |
