The present invention relates to a method and an apparatus for controlling a tool during the machining of workpieces while taking into account the actual position of the tool, in the course of which the rotary speed, rotary angle, angular velocity and/or angular acceleration of the tool are determined and furthermore, when determining the acceleration value, the acceleration due to gravity relative to the respective rotary angle (oblique position to the vertical) is taken into account. In particular in high-speed machine tools, this leads to more accurate initial values for the actual position and thus to the possibility of compensating for them (displacement-error compensation) during the control of the machine tool by means of an electric circuit arrangement. <IMAGE>
