De-sludger

On the bottom of a liquid-filled tank (10), in which solids sediment, the clearing shield (58) of a de-sludger (48) is arranged so as to be movable to and fro. Under operating conditions, the clearing shield (58) is constantly submerged together with the associated installations. It hangs pivotably on a traction cable (60) and trails on the bottom (52) of the tank (10) with skids (66) which extend coaxially with the pivot axis and are of circular-arc shape. The skids (66) act as roll-off bows. In the forward travel, the clearing shield (58) scrapes in a vertical orientation over the bottom (52) while, in the backward travel, it is pivoted up virtually horizontally. In the backward travel, a rake (34) carried by the skids (66) can come into effect. The movement of the clearing shield (58) is controlled depending upon the shield travel by limit switches (92, 94).
