Methods for enhancing the expression of proteins in cultured cells derived from a multicellular organism are disclosed. The methods include the introduction into the host cell of a polycistronic transcription unit of the formula: P-C1-(HEL-Cn)m. The polycistronic transcription unit may further include a leader positioned downstream of the promoter and upstream of C1.
