FIXING OF WATER-ABSORBING POLYMER TO FIBROUS SUBSTRATE

PURPOSE:To firmly fix the subject polymer to a substrate and improve the water-absorbing capacity by fixing a water-absorbing polymer to a fibrous substrate using a poly(aluminum chloride) as a binder. CONSTITUTION:The objective polymer fixed to a substrate can be produced by mixing 100 pts.wt. of a water-absorbing polymer (e.g., hydrolyzed graft- copolymer of starch and acrylonitrile) to a mixture of ethanol and water containing 0.1-50 pts.wt. (preferably 1-30 pts.wt.) of poly(aluminum chloride), applying the obtained mixture to a fibrous substrate (e.g., polyamide) e.g., by coating and drying the mixture preferably at 60-180 deg.C.
