Locking device for seat rails in vehicle seats, in particular motor vehicle seats

The locking device is used in a seat rail which has a guide rail to which a toothed rack is securely connected. A toothed pinion which is assigned to the seat component and can be locked in its set position intermeshes with this toothed rack. A locking device is to be provided with which it is possible to release the connection between the guide rail and the seat independently of the set position for the longitudinal displacement of the seat and with which it is also possible, after the release phase has ended, to achieve a secure locking position between the vehicle seat and the floor of the vehicle. The toothed pinion which is mounted in a cavity of the running rail which is mounted in a longitudinally displaceable fashion in the guide rail is rotationally connected to claw rings which can be axially displaced on both sides of the running rail and can engage in claws which are arranged on both sides of the running rail and are offset in terms of pitch with respect to one another, the said claw rings forming the locking element. A locking device of this kind permits, when released, simple longitudinal displacement of the seat with respect to the floor of the vehicle without a separate adjustment device being required for it. When locked, it is ensured that one of the claw rings reliably locks the seat with respect to the floor of the vehicle immediately when the locking device is correspondingly actuated.
