Clearing and drift rods are known having a handle part and an extension which is fitted thereto, is longer than the handle part and is in the form of a bar, the axis of the handle part coinciding with the axis of the extension, and having a gripping loop, which is fastened in the region of the handle part, in the form of a flexible strip or belt. In order to configure such a rod in such a manner that it can be handled safely, conveniently and in a balanced manner on the handle part and in other positions, the gripping loop is arranged in the region of the junction between the handle part and the extension and has an extended length which is approximately double the length of the distance from the attachment point of the loop to the end of the handle part.
