PURPOSE:To obtain the subject sheet having high initial liquid absorptivity, durable absorptivity of liquid) and excellent chemical resistance by discontinuously coagulating a polymeric substance in the gaps between fibers of a non-woven fabric consisting of three-dimensionally interlocked synthetic fibers in such a manner as to keep a specific void ratio. CONSTITUTION:A treatment liquid containing a soluble polymeric substance (e.g., PVA) and a dry-coagulable polymeric substance (e.g., synthetic rubber latex such as acrylic resin emulsion or nitrile-butadiene rubber) is impregnated in the gaps between the fibers of a non-woven fabric consisting of three- dimensionally interlocked ultrafine synthetic fiber having a fineness of 0.2-0.5de. After coagulating the coagulable polymer in dry state, the soluble polymer is dissolved and removed to obtain the objective liquid-absoribing sheet having a void ratio of 50-90% and containing the coagulated polymeric substance in discontinuously dispersed state. A liquid-absorbing sheet having excellent acid resistance or alkali resistance can be produced by using a polyester fiber or polyamide fiber as the synthetic fiber and a sheet for chemical treatment having excellent chemical resistance can be produced by using polypropylene fiber as the synthetic fiber. |
