A method for serial data transmission between components (11-27) of an automatic control system via a databus (10) connecting the components with one another is proposed. Data sequences of fixed length are in each case successively triggered by cyclic start commands in a regular time pattern, a separate fixed transmitting frame in time being allocated to each component within such a data sequence for sending signals or signal sequences on the databus (10). The time correlation of the transmitting frame with the components is stored in each of these. The time outside its transmitting frame is available to each component for receiving data from other components. In this manner, faster data transmission is possible compared with previous methods. <IMAGE>
