The invention relates to a viscous coupling with a casing 1 and a hub 5 and with discs 7, 8a, 8b associated with the casing 1 and the hub 5. Arranged between two first discs 7 there is in each case a pair of second discs 8a, 8b. The first discs 7 are, for example, associated with the casing 1 in a manner fixed against rotation and, via a spacer ring 14, against axial displacement, whereas the respective second discs 8a, 8b are associated with the hub in a manner fixed in terms of rotation but are axially displaceable. The interior 12 of the casing is at least partially filled with a viscous medium, e.g. silicone oil. Due to the pairwise arrangement of the second discs 8a, 8b and the recesses at the openings, these discs move apart axially when a certain operating condition occurs and come to rest against the respectively adjacent first disc 7. As a result, a first disc is in each case enclosed on both sides by second discs. This gives rise to wide-area frictional contact and an increased transmission capacity. An improvement in the torque transmission capacity and a reduction in the risk of deformation of the first discs 7 and more rapid and reliable transition to the hump are achieved. <IMAGE>
