<p>A crack growth limiter (1) consists of a pipe section (5) with insertions (6) of elongate form built into its walls and oriented at an angle to the expected crack growth direction. The insertions (6) are made of a material whose strength is equal to or exceeds that of the material of the limiter (1). A method of making said crack growth limiter (1) provides for placing in the casting mould, before pouring the molten metal, the insertions of elongate form and for welding the sheet blank, during the pipe-making process, along those edges of the blank where the end-faces of the insertions are situated.</p> |
