<p>A new ceramic composite material with appreciably improved strength values consists of a matrix of reaction-formed Si3N4 (RBSN) whose pores a filled with at least one element or one alloy chosen from the group Al, Si, Al alloy, Si alloy, Co- or Ni-based super-alloy, Ti alloy, intermetallic compound and transition alloy. It may also contain 5 to 40 vol.% of laminae, particles, whiskers and/or fibres. In addition, at least the pore-filling phase in the surface region may be converted to the corresponding nitride or oxide. The material is produced by treating the RBSN matrix with the liquid phase to be infiltrated under an inert gas at a pressure greater than 10 bar.</p> |
