PURPOSE:To reduce the cost of laser beam welding by jetting high-temperature plasma gas flow to a butt line in advance of irradiation of laser beam and then using this gas flow jointly as a heat source for laser beam welding. CONSTITUTION:Plate materials 1, 2 to be welded are set horizontally along the butt line A and a plasma torch 3 is supported at an oblique angle leaning forward to the welding direction. Further, a CO2 laser working nozzle 5 is set vertically and arranged on the rear side of the plasma torch 3. In front of the laser working nozzle 5, high-temperature plasma gas flow (a) is jetted along the joint line A to perform plasma arc welding. Continuously, laser beam welding is performed by the beam of the nozzle 5. Since high-temperature plasma gas flow forms a wide molten pool in advance of the laser beam welding, the laser beam welding can save power and increase the welding speed. Consequently, cost for laser welding can be reduced. |
