PURPOSE:To obtain the title thick carbon plate having excellent electric conductivity, high-temp. conductivity, and machinability by infiltrating pitch into a cellulosic-fiber layer having a specified mean pore diameter, carbonizing the material by heat treatment, and graphitizing the carbonized material at high temp. CONSTITUTION:The paper laminated with a cellulosic-fiber layer having 0.3-10mum mean pore diameter and e.g., 5mm-1cm thickness is dipped in a pitch impregnation tank, preheated at 200-300 deg.C for 20min to 6hr, and then vacuum-deaerated (e.g., at <=100 mmHg). Molten pitch is filled in the tank and infiltrated into the layer at >=5kg/cm<2> pressure. The obtained material is then heated in an inert gas finally to about 800 deg.C in about 50-400hr, and carbonized. The carbonized material is heat-treated at >=2700 deg.C, and graphitized to obtain a carbon plate. The carbon plate is appropriately used for the cooling plate of a fuel cell, etc. |
