PURPOSE:To improve utilization factor of a hydrogen storage alloy electrode by depositing oxide of a particular metal on the surface of the hydrogen storage alloy. CONSTITUTION:Oxide 2 of at least one metal selected from among Ca, Mg, Al, Be, Zn, Ti, Si, Sn, Cu is deposited on the surface of a hydrogen storage alloy 1. The metal oxide is a hydrophilic oxide and has strong affinity for an electrolyte, so that the hydrogen storage alloy is made liable to get wet and will always retain the electrolyte. Therefore, the surface of the hydrogen storage alloy withing the electrode is always in contact with the electrolyte to increase the substantial reacting area of the electrode, hence the utilization factor of the hydrogen storage alloy is improved. Thus, in particular, when high power discharge is effected, whole hydrogen storage alloy is utilized so that the voltage drop at the battery and the decrease of the battery capacity can be suppressed. |
