PURPOSE:To suppress inhomogeneous expansion of a plate and prevent generation of blister by effecting charge and discharge in an alkaline electrolyte while pressing the plate, after subjecting it to rolling, via separators. CONSTITUTION:An active material layer is formed on a plate core member, and after subjecting the active material layer to rolling at least once, charge and discharge are effected in an alkaline electrolyte while the plate 1 after the rolling is pressed via separators 4. Because formation is effected while the plate is pressed, even if the volume of the active material is increased, the increment can be absorbed some extent by that the holes in the plate become small. Further, even if hydrogen gas is generated, because formation is effected while the plate is pressed, the growth of the hydrogen gas bubbles can be suppressed. Thus, the hydrogen gas is released from wide area of the plate so that the passage of the hydrogen gas can be dispersed and the generation of blister can be suppressed. |
