PURPOSE:To prevent a large dielectric breakdown hole from being formed in an EL panel by refreshing and driving odd and even scanning electrode parts of the EL panel individually and shortening a refresh voltage application period. CONSTITUTION:A timing setting means 18 sets individually the timing of the application of a refresh driving voltage to a 1st group of electrodes Y1, Y3...Y399 (for example, odd line electrodes positioned on odd lines of scanning electrodes) and the timing of the application of a refresh driving voltage to a 2nd group of electrodes Y2, Y4...Y400 (for example, even line electrodes positioned on even lines) for refresh driving, and consequently EL (electroluminescence) elements 11 are not refreshed and driven at a time, but driven divisionally. Thus, the number of the EL elements 11 which are driven at a time is decreased and the total electrostatic capacity of the EL elements which are driven at the same time is not increased so much to shorten the time up to when the EL elements reaches a refresh voltage. Consequently, the large dielectric breakdown hole is prevented from being formed. |
