PURPOSE:To inexpensively obtain a piston thin in thickness and light weight by performing internal chill of a wear resiting ring, matrix-processing an aluminum alloy in a carbon fiber material, in a piston base material thereafter molding the piston, containing the wear resisting ring, in the vicinity of a ring land. CONSTITUTION:In manufacture, first a cylindrical fiber material of silicone carbide whisker, having a predetermined outside diameter, is heated and placed in a metal mold further pressurized in matrix by injecting a hot melted aluminum alloy into the metal mold, forming a fiber reinforced metal compound material 1. Next the compound material 1 is cut in round slices by a predetermined thickness, forming a wear resisting ring 2. Subsequently, a hot melting aluminum alloy is injected into the inside of the metal mold arranging the wear resisting ring 2, performing internal chill of the wear resisting ring 2 in a piston base material 3. Next the wear resisting ring 2 is cut in its periphery, forming a peripheral wall of a top ring groove 4 while performing work of a second ring groove 5 and an oil ring groove 6 in the bottom of the top ring groove 4. Thus, an aluminum alloy-made piston 7, provided with the wear resisting ring 2, is completed. |
