<p>PURPOSE:To perform the read and write of information in plural recording media with different track density by one magnetic memory device by discriminating the track density of the recording medium, and selecting a head corresponding to the track density. CONSTITUTION:A discrimination circuit 4 to discriminate a cartridge type magnetic tape to be used whether it is for 18 tracks or 36 tracks by the shape of a cartridge is provided. When the cartridge type magnetic tape 8 for 36 tracks having a recessed part on the outline of the cartridge is loaded, a movable electrode 9 is not moved by the cartridge, and is not brought into contact with a fixed electrode 10. As a result, the discrimination circuit 4 discriminates a loaded cartridge type magnetic tape as the one for 36 tracks, and outputs a logic 1. A switching circuit 5 selects (a) at the head 2 side for 36 tracks when the logic '1' is inputted. In such a way, it is possible to perform the normal read and write of the magnetic recording media with different track density by one magnetic memory device.</p> |
