PURPOSE:To accomplish high-speed focusing by judging whether the driving direction of a lens must be inverted based on the reliable range-found result or not and driving the lens so that it is inverted to a focusing position based on the range-found result at the time of judging that the direction must be inverted at such a time. CONSTITUTION:When the range-found result is unreliable (low control), range- finding is performed while moving (low control scanning) a photographic lens 2 in a specified direction. When reliable range-found result is obtained by performing range-finding during the low control scanning, whether the driving direction of the lens 2 must be inverted is judged. When it is judged to be inverted, the inverting and moving quantity to the focusing position is computed based on the range-found result at such a time and the photographic lens 2 is inverted and moved to the focusing position. Thus, a time necessary for returning the photographic lens 2 can be shortened and the high-speed focusing can be accomplished. |
