PURPOSE:To lengthen life by reproducing diaphragm by heat-treating beta-alumina when voltage to be applied to electrolyte is risen to a definite range beyond the initial voltage in the electrolysis of molten Na(salt) using beta-alumina diaphragm. CONSTITUTION:When electrolytic voltage rises to an extent not 2 V more than the initial voltage, beta-alumina diaphragm is removed, and then the beta-alumina diaphragm removed is heat-treated at a temperature more than 750 deg.C and 50 deg.C lower than the sintering temperature of the beta-alumina diaphragm. The use of the diaphragm reproduced in this way in electrolysis results in the coincidence of electrolytic voltage with the initial electrolytic voltage, thus preventing the destruction of diaphragm. The reproduction of the diaphragm is made each time electrolytic voltage rises. |
