PURPOSE:To obtain a magnetic head with a superior recording and reproducing characteristic by forming a nonmagnetic metallic layer so as to cover a thin film coil partially via an insulating layer. CONSTITUTION:The magnetic head is constituted of the thin film coil 1, a magnetic pole 4 to be coupled with the coil magnetically, the insulating layer 5' for the insulation of the thin film coil 1, and a lead wire 12. Furthermore, the insulating layer 5 is formed extending over the whole of the magnetic head, and an upper nonmagnetic metallic layer 2' to reduce inductance is formed on the layer 5. Since the whole of the magnetic head is enclosed with the nonmagnetic metallic layer 2' via the insulating layer 5 by employing such structure, surplus leakage magnetic flux can be interrupted from the thin film coil 1, which reduces the inductance. Also, since the magnetic pole 4 is enclosed without inserting the nonmagnetic metallic layer 2' between the coil 1 and the magnetic pole 4 at a part where the coil 1 is enclosed with the magnetic pole 4, magnetic joint between the magnetic pole 4 and the coil 1 is not disturbed. |
