Bucket dredger unit construction - has tunnel, enclosing bucket ladder to catch surplus mud spillage

A dredger unit includes a ladder-type bucket transporter which has a well (1) and bucket ladder (2) at one end hinge-connected to a derrick (3). The other end of the bucket ladder is suspended from a hoist cable (6) fitted to the bridge part (7). The dredger well runs from a transverse bulkhead (1a) into two U-shaped legs. The bucket ladder passes through the space between the legs. Support rollers (10) carry a chain constructed from links (11) on which the bucket (12) is fixed. Surplus mud from moving buckets is caught in a spill trough (14). Flushing water is controlled by a top cover (13).
